David Fairweather

Hi. I am David and welcome to my website. I am a Physics, Astronomy, and Theory of Knowledge teacher, currently based in the Swiss Alps. I also spend a lot of time playing in the mountains, skiing, cycling, running, just being outside.

Why do I have a website?

Some years ago, before settling down and getting proper job, I used to keep a pretty active blog about my adventures in a kayak. My reasons for starting a blog were simple: firstly, it was 2005 and everyone had a blog, and secondly, it seemed like a good way to persuade kayaking companies to give me cheap kit. Taking photos for the blog and writing about my travels and experiences became a part of my routine. Cheap kit was always the motivator.

It dawned on me recently that although I am still getting out and having adventures, I have drifted out of the habit of writing about them. What I didn’t ever appreciate in my quest for cheaper kayaking kit was how much I enjoyed writing about my experiences and valued the reflection that writing about them required. I miss that, so I decided to start again. Seeing as I spend far more time teaching than adventuring these days, I thought I should probably write a bit about that as well. I am pretty sure that education and adventure are really quite similar in a lot of ways.

Also, I have a large ego and like seeing pictures of myself on the internet.

Thanks for visiting.
